Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool remain goalless at half time as both sides need maximum points to help their survival chances.

The Lancashire derby remains goalless at half time following an edgy first 45 minutes at Ewood Park on Gary Bowyer's first game in charge since Michael Appleton's dismissal.

It was a cagey start from both struggling teams at Ewood Park, with David Dunn creating the only early chance of the game for the home side by taking a shot, which was saved by Matt Gilks.

Two minutes later, the away side were on the attack through Matt Derbyshire, who fired towards goal, but Grant Hanley was able to get a block in to deny his opponent.

Blackburn looked likely to take the lead through Hanley towards the midway of the first half, but he was left with his head in his hands when his effort went wide.

Blackpool had a chance around the 30-minute mark via a corner from Thomas Ince, who swung the ball into the area to find the head of Derbyshire, but he hit his effort over the bar.

Minutes later, Blackburn tried to knock on the door through striker Jordan Rhodes, who found space to take a goalbound shot, which was well saved by Gilks.
