Birmingham City overcome Hull City

Birmingham City record a 2-1 win over Hull City in a pre-season friendly clash.

Goals from Matt Green and Andrew Shinnie handed Birmingham City a 2-1 win over Hull City in a pre-season friendly clash on Saturday.

Birmingham boss Lee Clark handed spots to a number of his new signings, with Green and Shane Ferguson among the personnel who featured from the start.

Hull, meanwhile, had the likes of Allan McGregor, Danny Graham and Curtis Davies in their starting lineup.

It was the Blues who started the brighter of the two teams, with Green opening the scoring with a free header from a Ferguson corner after 12 minutes.

Robert Koren and Graham both had half-chances for Hull in the latter stages of the first period, but the former's long-range effort was deflected over the crossbar and the latter failed to convert a George Boyd cross from the right.

Birmingham had their second goal in the early stages of the second session when Shinnie capitalised on a defensive mix-up before dispatching a Scott Allan cross into the back of the net.

Hull had one back 15 minutes from time after Sone Aluko converted a penalty, but it proved to be too little too late as Birmingham held on for a morale-boosting victory.
