Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett delighted to win Lloyd Dyer race

Gary Rowett lauds Birmingham City's loan capture of Lloyd Dyer for the remainder of the Championship season.

Gary Rowett has described the signing of Lloyd Dyer for the remainder of the Championship season as a real coup for Birmingham City.

The 32-year-old completed a loan move until the end of the season from Watford yesterday.

"We fought off interest from at least four or five other Championship clubs and it's a real feather in our cap that we're able to attract someone like him and he wants to come to us and I see that as a real positive," Rowett told the club website.

Last season Dyer had his best-ever scoring campaign in the second tier, netting seven times to help Leicester City to the league title and promotion.

"Someone like Lloyd also has the ability to pick the ball up deep and run at pace at people and I think there are one or two people that wouldn't like to be defending one v one against him when he's on form," added Rowett.

Dyer could make his debut against former club West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
