Robert Lewandowski facing charge over on-pitch drinking celebrations?

Robert Lewandowski is reported for breaking the law by drinking champagne on the pitch after Poland secured a Euro 2016 spot by beating Ireland earlier this month.

Robert Lewandowski reportedly faces arrest for drinking champagne during Poland's on-pitch celebrations after the country qualified for Euro 2016.

The Bayern Munich striker and his countrymen secured their place in France next summer with a 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland earlier this month, a win which prompted jubilation after the final whistle in Warsaw.

However, The Telegraph claims that the 27-year-old faces the prospect of being charged after Warsaw police received an anonymous tip-off that he had breached Poland's Act on Safety of Mass Events.

The law states that only "the sale, administration and consumption of alcoholic beverages of no more than 3.5% alcohol is permitted in public", meaning that Lewandowski is likely to have broken the law by consuming some of a bottle of champagne, which is typically around five times that alcohol limit.

Despite the tip-off, the forward's agent laughed off the prospect of a criminal charge.

"We don't take this matter seriously" Cezary Kucharski is quoted as saying. "I hope that the FA will strive to ensure that they can explain the situation. I don't want Robert to have to bother with such trifle".

Lewandowksi's Bayern next face a trip to last season's Bundesliga runners-up Wolfsburg for a DFB-Pokal tie on Tuesday night.
