Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes insists that his side will be pleased they secured top spot in their Champions League group when the draw for the last 16 is made next week.

Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has lauded the professional manner of his side's Champions League victory over BATE Borisov on Wednesday.

The Bavarian giants ensured top spot in Group E with a crushing 4-1 win over BATE at the Allianz Arena.

Despite having Jerome Boateng sent off early in the second half, Bayern recorded a comfortable victory thanks to goals from Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller, Xherdan Shaqiri and David Alaba.

Heynckes insisted that finishing first and securing home advantage for the second leg of their last-16 tie would prove important.

He told UEFA.com: "I'm obviously very satisfied because the priority was to win and make sure of first place.

"The team were very determined and very alert. We conceded almost nothing in defence. Overall, it was an authoritative display.

"All credit to my team because the Champions League is such a difficult competition, the runners-up are all very strong. That means it's a good advantage we're away from home in the first leg."

Bayern have raced into an eight-point lead in the Bundesliga after amassing 38 points from their 15 league matches.
