Preview: Barnsley vs. Nottingham Forest

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship encounter between struggling Barnsley and Nottingham Forest at Oakwell.

Barnsley could climb out of the relegation zone this Saturday if they beat high-flying Nottingham Forest at Oakwell.

The Tykes currently prop up the Championship table, but they are just two points from safety and have the luxury of a game in hand over 21st-placed Millwall.

Indeed, if Millwall and Yeovil both lose this weekend, then a victory would see Barnsley move out of the bottom three, dropping the Lions into the danger zone.

However, with just one win in their last seven matches, that will be no easy task for Danny Wilson's side, particularly coming off the back of a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Huddersfield in their last outing.

That defeat dealt a major blow to Barnsley's goal difference, which is now the second-lowest in the league - something which could prove important in a relegation race that looks likely to go down to the wire.

Things are a lot more promising for the team when it comes to home form, however, as they are unbeaten in their last four matches at Oakwell, winning two and drawing two.

The hosts will be looking to end a six-match winless streak against Forest, but Wilson is likely to be without injury doubts David Fox and Jim O'Brien.

Forest will be eager to get back to winning ways themselves having seen their fine form come to a juddering halt in recent weeks.

Billy Davies's side saw a 16-match unbeaten streak ended in surprising fashion when they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United last month, and they are yet to return to winning ways.

They have undoubtedly had a tough spell of matches, but Davies will have been confident of picking up more than the one point they managed against Leicester, Burnley and Wigan in the last three weeks.

The visitors will be eyeing Saturday's match as an ideal chance to end their four-match winless streak, and they have a decent away record to fall back on having lost just three league games on their travels all season.

The most recent of those did come in their last away outing, although Forest will not be expected as tough a test at Oakwell as they received at Turf Moor against Burnley.

Despite their blip in form, victory could lift Forest above Queens Park Rangers and into fourth, but they will have to do it with a depleted squad as Andy Reid, Henri Lansbury, Kelvin Wilson, Chris Cohen, David Vaughan and Jack Hobbs are all struggling with injuries.
