Ernesto Valverde relaxed amid Barcelona's Marco Verratti pursuit

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde remains relaxed amid his team's pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has said that it "would be great" if the Catalan giants signed Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti this summer, but the Spaniard is not obsessing over the deal.

Verratti has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona since the transfer window opened last month, and it is understood that the Spanish outfit are confident of sealing a deal for the 24-year-old.

Valverde has confirmed that there has been discussions for the Italian international, but the new Barcelona head coach is remaining calm due to the squad of players that he currently has available.

"Obviously we've had discussions but to ask for 'this player', no. For me, the best signings are those who are in my team," Valverde told reporters.

"If it happens, then that would be great. The club is working hard for the squad to have the best players. But my idea is always to work with the players in my squad. I have almost the best squad possible anyway. It's very difficult to make it better, because of the high standard of players that we have.

"It's difficult to improve what's in the team. There are always a lot of names and the summer is long, but for me the important thing is to get the best form out of my players. We're not closed to any options until the last day but I think that's the same for any club."

Verratti has scored six times in 201 appearances for PSG following a move from Pescara in the summer of 2012, and the midfielder has won 15 domestic trophies during his time in Paris.
