Paris Saint-Germain's Lionel Messi is furious over Barcelona president Joan Laporta's recent comments regarding a potential return to the club, according to a report.

Paris Saint-Germain's Lionel Messi has become agitated by Barcelona president Joan Laporta's recent comments regarding a potential return to the club, according to a report.

As a result of the Catalan side's financial difficulties last summer, the club were unable to afford to keep the Argentinian at the club, whose contract had expired in June 2021.

Following his emotional exit, Messi joined the Ligue 1 side for the 2021-22 campaign and helped them to the league title in his first-ever season outside of Barcelona.

However, current Barca chief Laporta has regularly talked up a potential return for Messi in the future, should he wish to do so, and the 34-year-old has grown frustrated by the constant remarks surrounding his exit according to the Daily Mail.

Speaking to L'Esportiu recently, Laporta said: "We would've liked Messi to stay, but it wasn't to be. And it wasn't to be because of La Liga's Financial Fair Play rules and PSG's offers.

"When players are like that, they find they cannot leave because the deals are worth many millions of euros."

The remarks suggesting that Messi's Barcelona exit came down to money have angered the forward, as well as his agent, and father, Jorge Messi.

Constant hints at a possible return to the Camp Nou led to Messi's father personally asking Laporta to stop back in March, according to the report, but following the continued comments, the Messi camp have become frustrated even further.
