The agent of Benfica forward Jonas has revealed that Barcelona 'made an approach' for the experienced Brazilian at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Jonas, 32, scored 32 goals in 34 league games last season to help Benfica claim their domestic title, and his tally from his time in Portuguese football reads 67 goals in 82 appearances.
According to Tiago Goncalves, Barcelona were interested in bringing the attacker back to Spain, but there has been 'no contact' since initial discussions took place at the end of last season.
"Someone dealing on behalf of Barcelona approached us at the end of last season. We were obviously quite flattered, because it was recognition that Jonas had a spectacular season," Goncalves told Globoesporte.
"When a club are interested in signing someone, they have to act quickly because negotiations take time to reach their conclusion. A transfer could be difficult because there has not been any contact since the initial approach.
"I want to make it clear that Jonas is very happy at Benfica and feels beloved here. Barcelona's approach is a reward for what he did at Benfica. But a transfer would only be an option if both Benfica and Jonas are happy with it."
Jonas scored 51 times in 156 appearances for Spanish side Valencia between 2010 and 2014 before making the move to Benfica.
