Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has reportedly decided to focus his efforts on bringing attacking midfielder Cristian Rodriguez to the Stadium of Light this summer.
Rodriguez has spent the previous two seasons with Atletico Madrid, but recently revealed that he would prefer to leave the Spanish champions due to the lack of opportunities he was given in the last campaign.
According to the Daily Mail, Poyet is hopeful that his fellow Uruguayan will be tempted by a move the Premier League.
However, it is not yet clear whether Sunderland have the funds to challenge for Rodriguez's signature, with an agreement appearing to still be some distance away.
The 28-year-old played in all four of Uruguay's World Cup matches in Brazil.
