Sunderland's Javier Manquillo keen to silence critics

New Sunderland defender Javier Manquillo reveals that he is desperate to impress in England after struggling during a loan spell with Liverpool.

Javier Manquillo has said that he has "everything to prove to Sunderland not Liverpool" as he attempts to make an impression at the Stadium of Light this season.

The 22-year-old joined Sunderland on loan from Atletico Madrid in the latter stages of the transfer window.

It will be the second time that the defender has played in England after a forgettable loan spell at Liverpool during the 2014-15 campaign, and Manquillo has revealed that he is keen to impress the Black Cats.

"I have everything to prove to Sunderland not Liverpool. That is the team I want to impress," Manquillo told reporters.

It is understood that Sunderland have the chance to sign the former Spain Under-21 international on a permanent deal at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
