Atletico Madrid see off Academica de Coimbra

Atletico Madrid edge closer to the last 32 in the Europa League with a 2-1 triumph over Academica de Coimbra at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

Atletico Madrid have won their 15th consecutive match in the Europa League with a 2-1 triumph over Academica de Coimbra at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

After a goalless first half, the defending champions took the lead two minutes into the second period when Diego Costa headed in from Koke's corner.

They extended their advantage in the 67th minute as Emre fired home a free kick.

Salim Cisse got one back for the visitors when he headed in on 85 minutes, but they were unable to find an equaliser.

The victory has seen Madrid all but book their place in the last 32 of the competition.
