Aston Villa sell one of their midfielders to Everton in what represents a significant boost in their efforts to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Everton have announced that they have completed the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.

Both clubs have endured issues with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations over the past 12 months, most notably Everton who were hit by two points deductions during 2023-24.

At a time when the Toffees were fighting relegation, Villa were challenging for a top-four spot and ultimately secured Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.

Nevertheless, it has been well documented that the West Midlands outfit are under pressure to bolster their own financial position before the next accounting date of June 30.

Douglas Luiz is expected to sign for Juventus once terms are agreed for two players who will move in the opposite direction, but Villa have been able to confirm a much-needed sale on Saturday.

Everton confirm Iroegbunam transfer

Everton have revealed that they have added Iroegbunam to their midfield ranks for an undisclosed fee, reports indicating that they have paid £9m for his signature.

The 20-year-old has penned a contract until 2027 and will hope to establish himself as an important member of the squad over time.

Iroegbunam leaves Villa having made three starts and 15 substitute outings in all competitions, 11 of which came from March onwards.

However, having only been used sparingly in the first team by Unai Emery, the former Queens Park Rangers loanee is taking his chances elsewhere.

Why this will not be end of transfer merry-go-round

There are benefits which come from clubs effectively negotiating player exchanges but conducting them in separate deals.

Villa are now expected to sign one of Everton's youngsters in Lewis Dobbin, the versatile attacker expected to become a backup squad member.

Discussions are also ongoing with Chelsea regarding the signing of Ian Maatsen and the alleged sale of an academy player, believed to be Omari Kellyman.

From Everton's perspective, they are also close to re-signing Leeds United winger Jack Harrison on a season-long loan deal.
