Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings calls on his teammates to be "braver" following the club's difficult start to life back in the Premier League.

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has called on his teammates to be "braver" following the club's difficult start to life back in the Premier League.

The Midlands side, who were promoted via the playoffs in May, have only managed one win from their opening six league games.

Their most recent encounter saw them take the lead against Arsenal at the Emirates on two occasions, only to see the game slip away from them in the final 10 minutes.

Speaking soon after the defeat in North London, Mings told The Mirror: "We're a pressing team and we like to go and press. I think we should be a bit braver and go and stop teams higher up the pitch, especially if we have a man advantage.

"It feels like when we go ahead a bit of desperation creeps in. Instead, we should be trying to get another goal and really being ruthless. It's a tough one to take at the moment but I'm sure we'll put it right."

Mings was recently involved in a bizarre clash with teammate Anwar El-Ghazi during a 0-0 draw at home to West Ham, with both players aggressively squaring up to each other amid a dispute at a corner.

Dean Smith's side face Brighton and Hove Albion in the EFL Cup on Wednesday ahead of resuming Premier League action at home to Burnley this weekend.
