Aston Villa's Matt Lowton says that Ciaran Clark should not be troubled by his error against Manchester City.

Matt Lowton has tipped his Aston Villa teammate Ciaran Clark to "bounce back" from the mistake he made against Manchester City on Monday evening.

Irish defender Clark slipped inside his own half, which resulted in City striker Carlos Tevez going on to score the only goal of the game at Villa Park.

Despite the error, Lowton has insisted that Clark has the maturity to not let his future performances suffer.

"Ciaran will lose a bit of sleep. It's really unfortunate for him but he's been fantastic all season. He's been made captain which shows what a good player he is and how mature he is," he told the club's official website. "It's a mistake. It happens to everyone. The unfortunate thing is when it happens to a centre-half it generally ends up in a goal against a team as good as Man City.

"But he will bounce back. He's very mature. He will lose a bit of sleep as I said but when he's back in training, he will be working hard in order to rectify his mistake."

The defeat to City has left Villa 18th in the Premier League standings with 10 matches left to play.
