How Aston Villa could line up against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Aston Villa could line up in Saturday's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's surprise 1-0 defeat away to Sheffield United when they continue their Premier League campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Dean Smith's side will again be unable to call upon defensive duo Kortney Hause and Matty Cash this weekend through injury, while Wesley is still absent despite recently returning to full-contact training following a long period on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Villa had been hopeful that captain Jack Grealish would be able to recover from a shin injury in time for the game, with the England international missing the last three matches due to the issue, but Smith admitted during his pre-match press conference that the attacker was "unlikely to play".

As a result, Anwar El Ghazi should keep his spot in the final third of the field, but there could be a change of formation from the defeat to Sheffield United.

Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore should retain their spots in attack, but Jacob Ramsey and Marvelous Nakamba could make way for Douglas Luiz and Ross Barkley in midfield.

Cash's absence should mean another start for Ahmed Elmohamady at right-back, while Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings and Matt Targett will make up the rest of the back four.

January arrival Morgan Sanson is also pushing for a spot in the starting side, but it seems likely that the 26-year-old will again be named on the bench for a team pushing for a potential Europa League finish.

Aston Villa possible starting lineup: Martinez; Elmohamady, Konsa, Mings, Targett; Luiz, McGinn; Traore, Barkley, El Ghazi; Watkins
