Report: Joao Moutinho to leave Monaco

Joao Moutinho will reportedly leave AS Monaco if they are knocked out of the Champions League.

AS Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho will reportedly leave the club if they fail to qualify for the group phase of this season's Champions League.

Les Rouges et Blancs, who reached the quarter-finals of the competition last year, were beaten 3-1 in the first leg of their qualifier away to Valencia on Wednesday.

According to Le Parisien, the Portuguese international will quit the Monegasques if they are unable to overcome the two-goal deficit against Los Che in the return match at the Stade Louis II.

However, it is claimed that the decision will not necessarily come from the player, with Monaco potentially needing to cut their wage bill if they lose the tie, and Moutinho is the highest earner at the Ligue 1 outfit.

Moutinho is currently out with an ankle injury and is expected to miss the return leg against the Spanish giants.
