Wojciech Szczesny hints at Roma stay

Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will wait until after Euro 2016 to decide his Arsenal future, but hints at a Roma stay.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has hinted that he may be tempted to stay with Roma rather than return to parent club Arsenal next summer.

Szczesny joined the Italian giants on a season-long loan after the Gunners' signing of Petr Cech pushed the Polish stopper further down the pecking order in North London.

Consequently, the 25-year-old, who has started nine of Roma's 12 Serie A games, feels that it could be in his best interests to stay with the Giallorossi, who sit third in Italy's top flight.

"I can't imagine myself with other English teams," he told Przegladsportowy. "I love Arsenal but things are great at Roma as I have the faith of the coach, my teammates and the fans.

"I will decide my future after the Euros, though being starter at the runners-up in Italy is better than being on the bench in England.

"Leaving was difficult, but I didn't want to be a backup. Even [Arsene] Wenger thought it was better for me to play and I trust him."

Szczesny was dropped by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in January after being caught smoking in the showers at Southampton, directly after a 2-0 defeat.

He played second fiddle to David Ospina in the Premier League for the rest of the campaign, though he helped the North Londoners to FA Cup glory in May.
