Jack Wilshere leads Barcelona midfield wishlist?

Barcelona want Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere as a successor to Xavi Hernandez, according to a report in the Spanish press.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere reportedly leads a three-man Barcelona wishlist as the Catalan giants begin to consider future options in central midfield.

Barcelona duo Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta have been an integral part of their success in recent seasons, with Sergi Busquets providing a protective shield in an anchorman's role.

With Xavi approaching his 34th birthday, Barca are considering future recruitment in that area and believe that Wilshere can fit the bill as a schemer at Camp Nou, according to Mundo Depotivo.

Arsenal are no strangers to transfer negotiations with La Liga's reigning champions after seeing Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song leave for Spain in successive seasons.

Wilshere is said to head a trio of midfielders being monitored by Barca scouts, with Athletico Madrid starlet Koke and Borussia Dortmund linchpin Ilkay Gundogan also on their radar.

The 21-year-old signed a new five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium last December.
