Arsene Wenger plays down Diego Costa move

Arsene Wenger believes that Diego Costa's release fee at Atletico Madrid is £145m - not the £32m figure widely quoted in the media.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Diego Costa's buy-out clause at Atletico Madrid is far higher than the £32m figure quoted in the media.

The Gunners have recently been linked with a move for the 25-year-old striker, who has scored 19 goals in La Liga this season.

The North London club are in the market for a new front after being left short by injuries to Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner, but the Frenchman has played down reports suggesting that he will try to prise the Brazilian from Atleti.

When asked if he was considering a bid, he replied: "What, £145m?"

Dimitar Berbatov and Mirko Vucinic are among those being touted for a move to the Emirates Stadium in this month's transfer window.
