Arsenal were reportedly one of four teams to fail with in their efforts to sign a Barcelona attacker in the winter transfer window.

Arsenal reportedly failed with a bid to sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in the January transfer window.

The Gunners were keen to strengthen their forward options in the recent transfer window, especially as Gabriel Jesus picked up a season-ending knee injury in their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.

They were linked with a number of potential targets, including Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Cunha.

Arsenal allegedly failed with a £60m bid for Watkins, while Cunha opted to sign a new contract with Wolves until the summer of 2029.

Mikel Arteta's side were also believed to be considering a surprise move for AC Milan forward Alvaro Morata, before he completed a loan move to Galatasaray until the end of the season.

Arsenal fail with Ferran Torres bid

According to El Nacional, Barcelona's Torres was also on Arsenal's radar in the winter January transfer window.

The report claims that the Gunners were one of four teams who failed with a bid to sign the former Manchester City attacker.

Barcelona were believed to be looking for around €30m (£25m) for a player who is under contract until the summer of 2027.

However, Arsenal were unwilling to pay any more than more €20m (£16.7m), which ultimately put an end to any talks over a potential move to North London.

Who else made offers for Torres?

Like Arsenal, Serie A leaders Napoli were also reluctant to meet Barcelona's asking price despite showing an interest.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan both reportedly failed with January proposals for the Spain international.

The two clubs were keen to take Torres on loan with a non-obligatory option to buy at the end of the season, but their offers were knocked back by Barcelona sporting director Deco and club president Joan Laporta.

Barcelona are still said to be open to selling Torres in the summer transfer window despite the fact that he has offered some useful contributions this season.

Torres has scored 10 goals and three assists in 25 competitive appearances this season, including a hat-trick against this former club Valencia in Thursday's 5-0 Copa del Rey victory at Mestalla.

However, the 24-year-old is still regarded as Hansi Flick's backup option to first-choice forward Robert Lewandowski.
