Forlan: 'Suarez would make Arsenal challengers'

Luis Suarez's Uruguay international teammate Diego Forlan feels that the Liverpool striker would make Arsenal Premier League title challengers if he moves to the Gunners.

Diego Forlan believes that Luis Suarez would catapult Arsenal back into the Premier League title race if he was to sign for the club.

The Gunners have made two bids for the Liverpool striker this summer, most recently an offer that was £1 over the reported £40m fee that triggered a clause stating that the Reds had to inform Suarez of the bid.

The Reds have refused to enter into discussions over their talismanic forward, with managing director Ian Ayre reiterating the club's stance last week.

However, Forlan feels that his Uruguay international teammate would be an ideal fit for Arsene Wenger's side.

"Manchester United have had Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie and Manchester City have had Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez. But Arsenal have struggled since Thierry Henry left," The Mirror quotes Forlan as saying.

"If they manage to sign Luis, then I think, with the players they already have, they would be serious title contenders again. Only Luis knows what his plans are – but he would be a great signing for Arsenal.

"Of course, Arsenal are a very strong team, but, for the last years, they have not been able to compete with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for the title. They have had very good players, but have maybe lacked that one special player who you need to win a league as strong as the Premier League."

Suarez scored 30 goals for Liverpool last season but will spend the first six games of the new campaign serving a suspension for his bite on Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April.
