Everton will reportedly revive their interest in Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles during the January transfer window after a summer move collapsed on deadline day.

Everton are reportedly planning to revive their interest in Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles during the January transfer window.

The Toffees were close to securing the Arsenal man in the summer transfer window on a loan deal with a permanent option, only for the Gunners to pull out of the deal.

Manager Mikel Arteta told Maitland-Niles that he remains part of his plans for the season ahead, but Everton will look to test their resolve should his opportunities remain limited between now and the New Year, according to ESPN.

The 24-year-old has most commonly featured as a wing-back for Arsenal and England previously, but is understood to want to establish himself in central midfield.

Maitland-Niles headed to West Bromwich Albion on loan for the second half of last season, where he managed 15 appearances entirely in a central midfield role for the Baggies.

However, Everton manager Rafael Benitez was reportedly viewing the Englishman as competition for veteran Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne in the full-back areas, a department where the Merseyside club appear to be a little light for this season.
