David Luiz admits he should have made "different decision" on Arsenal future

Arsenal defender David Luiz admits that he should have made a "different decision" on his future following an error-strewn display against Manchester City.

Arsenal defender David Luiz has admitted that he should have made a "different decision" over his future at the club following an error-strewn performance against Manchester City this evening.

Luiz came on as a sub following an injury to Pablo Mari in the first half at the Etihad Stadium, but lasted only 25 minutes before being sent off.

In that time the Brazilian also made an error which led directly to Man City's first goal before giving away the penalty which resulted in his red card.

After the match Luiz spoke to reporters to take responsibility for the result and talk briefly about his future, with his contract currently due to expire at the end of this month.

"It's not the team's fault, it's my fault. I took the decision to play - I should have taken a different decision in the last two months. I didn't," he told Sky Sports News.

"The team did well, especially with 10 men. The coach is amazing, all the players did amazing, it's just my fault. It was all about my contract, if I stay here or not. I have 14 days left here.

"[I should have made a] different decision to try to decide as early as possible (my future) but I didn't. I love to be here, that's why I continue to train hard, that's why I came here today, that's why I say to all the players 'nobody needs to speak, I have to show my face'.

"I want to stay, the coach wants me to stay. We are waiting for the decision."

Luiz became the first player in Europe's top five leagues to be sent off, concede a penalty and commit an error leading to an opposition goal after coming on as a sub since March 2011.
