Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness plays down Alexis Sanchez speculation

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness seemingly suggests that the club are not interested in signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this summer.

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has seemingly suggested that the club are not interested in signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this summer.

Uncertainty continues to rage over Sanchez's future at the Emirates Stadium, with the Chilean set to enter the last year of his contract with no new deal close to being agreed.

Bayern are considered one of the frontrunners to sign Sanchez should he leave Arsenal this summer, but Hoeness insists that he would prefer to continue buying young players rather than splashing the cash.

"Everyone is talking about building a new team and how Bayern Munich's future must be shaped. And then Bayern does exactly that – signs young players between 20 and 22 – and is criticised once again," Hoeness told Kicker.

"You can't build a new team with €100m (£88m) transfers for 29 and 30-year-olds. That isn't a policy. Either we go down this road with all these young players, all getting a chance to play, or we don't go down this road.

"I fully support what's been done so far – it's highly satisfactory and it all makes sense. [Niklas] Sule, [Sebastian] Rudy, [Serge] Gnabry and [Corentin] Tolisso are players with huge potential for the future. As chairman of the supervisory board I'm very pleased with our transfer policy up until now because it was implemented with great care."

Sanchez has also been heavily linked with a £50m move to Manchester City.
