Arsenal have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The 25-year-old is regarded as a key figure in the Real Sociedad squad, having made 188 appearances since rising through the youth ranks at the Basque club.
Zubimendi has featured in 45 competitive matches this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist for Imanol Alguacil's side.
Having impressed with his performances this term, Zubimendi has been linked with a move away from San Sebastian during the summer transfer window.
The Spain international is believed to have €60m (£51.3m) in his contract which is set to run until the summer of 2027.

Alguacil makes clear Zubimendi transfer stance
Arsenal have been one of the teams that have been linked with a move, while there has also been interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
However, Arsenal's hopes of landing Zubimendi have now taken another setback following comments from the Real Sociedad manager.
Alguacil has stated in no uncertain terms that the midfielder will remain with the club for at least one more season.
The 52-year-old told reporters: "Martin Zubimendi wants to stay here and for sure he will stay with us at Real Sociedad next season. I have no doubts, he's staying with us."
Alguacil's comments seem to back up Zubimendi's recent remarks, with the player insisting that he is "happy" and feels at "home" with the Basque club.

Do Arsenal have alternative targets?
Although Zubimendi appears to be Arsenal's first-choice target, they have seemingly been preparing for the scenario that he could decide to stay with Real Sociedad.
Last month, a report claimed the Gunners were considering Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz and Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes as alternative options.
The Gunners have also been linked with Everton's Amadou Onana, but face competition from their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
While they may be looking for new additions, Arsenal are set to retain the services of one of their current midfielders after agreeing a new contract with Jorginho.
