Arsenal will, as it stands, have the chance to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano for £53m next summer, according to a report.

Arsenal will reportedly have the chance to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano for £53m next summer.

The Gunners were strongly linked with the 20-year-old during the recent transfer window but were ultimately unable to agree a deal with the defender's Bundesliga club.

However, according to L'Equipe, the release clause in Upamecano's current deal will drop to £53m next summer, making him available for that figure unless Leipzig can agree terms on a new contract.

The deal in question will expire in the summer of 2021, meaning that Leipzig might be forced to sell the France Under-21 international at the end of the campaign.

Upamecano has only made two Bundesliga appearances this season as he battles back from the knee problem that forced to miss almost the entirety of the second half of the 2018-19 campaign.

David Luiz arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea before the start of the new season, while 18-year-old William Saliba was also signed from Saint-Etienne before being loaned back to the Ligue 1 side.
