Nigel Adkins insists that teenage defender Luke Shaw will not leave Southampton for Arsenal this month.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has insisted that defender Luke Shaw will not leave the club in January.

Arsenal are reported to be interested in the 17-year-old left-back and could make an offer this month.

"I think Luke gets linked every week with Arsenal, doesn't he?" he told the Daily Mail.

"Luke is under contract, he is playing football for us in the Premier League, which is important.

"We are not looking to let him go anywhere. If anyone wants to come in for any of our players, by all means speak to the chairman. He does the deals and all the best with that."

Shaw has developed at the Southampton youth academy since he joined them in 2003.
