How Arsenal could line up with Ben White

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Arsenal could line up for the 2021-22 season with Ben White in the team.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a £50m deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for defender Ben White, who will undergo his medical in North London upon his return from holiday.

The Gunners have seemingly got their man after having initial bids of £40m and £45m knocked back by the Seagulls, and personal terms are not expected to be an issue for a player who is understood to be very keen on the move.

White is expected to become Arsenal's third signing of the transfer window, with the club already securing the signature of Nuno Tavares from Benfica, while Albert Sambi Lokonga's arrival should be confirmed in the next few days.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up with White for the 2021-22 season.

ARS XI w/BEN WHITE

White demonstrated his versatility at Brighton by featuring at the heart of defence, as a right-back and defensive midfielder under Graham Potter, but the 23-year-old would simply slot right into the Gunners' backline alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, in turn knocking Rob Holding down the pecking order.

White and Gabriel will still be expected to shield Bernd Leno despite links with an exit, while Calum Chambers would be expected to start as the Gunners' first-choice right-back should Hector Bellerin's push for an exit prove successful.

Tavares will simply provide competition and backup to Kieran Tierney, who is indispensable on the left-hand side of defence when fully fit, while Sead Kolasinac is still expected to leave despite his involvement in pre-season.

With Lokonga's arrival now imminent, the Anderlecht lynchpin is expected to come in as a replacement for Granit Xhaka - apparently on the verge of a move to Roma - while Thomas Partey will hope for better fortunes this season.

The Gunners' search for a Martin Odegaard replacement continues, but early indications suggest that Emile Smith Rowe will fill the Norwegian's void in the number 10 role, and the Englishman has been pictured donning the iconic '10' shirt in pre-season training.

Bukayo Saka has made himself Arsenal's first-choice right-winger and that is unlikely to change next term, while Alexandre Lacazette's involvement in pre-season has seen speculation over his future quieten down as he prepares to link up with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once more.
