Granit Xhaka: 'My respect for Arsene Wenger is enormous'

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka claims that manager Arsene Wenger has "insane charisma" and insists he has nothing but respect for what the Frenchman has achieved.

Granit Xhaka has revealed that he has only held "two or three" conversations with Arsene Wenger, but says that the Frenchman was a key reason behind his decision to join Arsenal.

The Gunners signed Switzerland international Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach early in the summer transfer window for a sum of £30m.

Despite spending limited time with Wenger, who has been at the helm of the North London outfit for the past two decades, Xhaka describes his manager's charisma as "insane" and says that he has "enormous" respect for the man in charge.

"[Wenger's] not a coach who speaks to you every day," he told Appenzeller Zeitung. "Wenger has spoken to me two or three times. He's told me he's very impressed by how I train and how I'm a disciplined character.

"He has an incredible way, an insane charisma. You look at him and know, 'Wow, this man has achieved and experienced so much'. The respect for him is enormous."

Xhaka has started each of Arsenal's last two Premier League matches after being introduced as a substitute in the opening-game defeat to Liverpool.
