Jack Wilshere will assume the captain's armband at Arsenal next season, according to reports.

Jack Wilshere will take over the captain's armband at Arsenal next season, according to The People.

The 21-year-old will replace current skipper Thomas Vermaelen, whose form has been affected by wearing the armband.

Manager Arsene Wenger is said to believe that the England international is ready for the responsibility after a strong showing off the pitch following his side's 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek.

Wilshere's ability and willingness to play week in, week out, is reportedly the factor that makes him more appealing to Wenger to be skipper rather than current vice-captain Mikel Areta.
