Arsene Wenger dismisses critics who suggest that Arsenal need more defenders to resolve the club's problems.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes that the Gunners have enough defensive options despite being urged to spend money on centre-backs.

The North London side have faced criticism over their defensive frailties in recent months. However, the Frenchman thinks he has no need to enter the transfer market.

"The balance is vital," Wenger told the club's official website. "Koscielny and Vermaelen can play together and Mertesacker can play with Vermaelen and Koscielny.

"It gives us a bit of an opportunity to rotate a bit when needed and people are tired.

"People wanted us to buy a centre-back so much and then suddenly you realise we have plenty."

The Gunners host West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates on Saturday.
