Arsene Wenger: 'I am sorry Rob Holding did not cost Arsenal £55m'

Arsenal's Arsene Wenger shows his frustration with questions about spending money to bring in new players, saying "sorry" that new defender Rob Holding "didn't cost £55m".

Arsene Wenger has expressed frustration at being questioned about new signings, sarcastically apologising about Rob Holding's relatively small price tag.

The Gunners are yet to register a win this season in the Premier League, their 4-3 defeat against Liverpool being followed up with a 0-0 draw at Leicester City on Saturday.

Wenger has found himself the subject of criticism by some fans and pundits, who believe that he should be spending more money to bring in new players.

The 66-year-old told reporters after the Foxes game: "It's not just about spending the money. We are ready to spend the money but we have to find players who will improve our team.

"Nobody speaks about the performance of Rob Holding today - he is English, he is 20 years old, you should be happy. But I am sorry he didn't cost £55m.

"We don't speak about the performances anymore and I think that is not right."

Defender Holding joined Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee said to be around £2m.
