Arsene Wenger: I am a "big enemy" of Ballon d'Or, but Lionel Messi will win

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that he is a "big enemy" of the Ballon d'Or, but tips Lionel Messi to win.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is a "big enemy" of the Ballon d'Or prize, but has tipped Barcelona star Lionel Messi to take home the award for a fifth time.

The Argentina international will be up against his club teammate Neymar and Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the current holder of the title.

The winner will be announced in a ceremony in Zurich this evening, and Wenger has suggested that he will not be watching as he does not believe that footballers should be awarded individually.

"I am a big enemy of the Ballon d'Or," Wenger said in Monday's press conference. "Who will win it? You know as well as I do that it will be Messi.

"[Barcelona] won absolutely everything. It has to be a Barcelona player. When you pick a Barcelona player, it is certainly Messi.

"Overall I'm not a big fan of it. We are in a team sport. It is not logical just for individual effort. It is a bit contradictory to what is the route of our sport."

Last season, Messi helped Barcelona win La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey crown.
