Petr Cech: 'We must bounce back'

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech backs his side to "bounce back" immediately following their 4-0 defeat at Southampton.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has called on his teammates to "bounce back" from their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Southampton on Boxing Day.

The Gunners missed the opportunity to usurp Leicester City, who had earlier slipped up at Liverpool, at the top of the Premier League in their worst league defeat since the 6-0 drubbing at Chelsea in the 2013-14 season.

"We had a game where nothing was really happening for us and everything was happening for them," Cech told Arsenal's official website. "If you look at the number of shots they had - they had one in the first half and they scored a goal.

"In the second half both goals were practically the same. They had two shots and they put them in. Obviously when you play against a team which has this type of efficiency in front of goal then it is difficult to win games.

"Our performance was not as we wanted but that's football - especially in the Premier League. When you have a day like that and you don't find your way it is very difficult to win."

Cech, who also missed the opportunity to break the Premier League clean sheets record, backed the side to turn things around when they host league newcomers Bournemouth tomorrow, adding: "The positive thing is there is a game on Monday and we will be ready to bounce back."

Arsenal will find themselves top of the pile tomorrow if they defeat Eddie Howe's side.
