Michael Owen: 'Arsenal not up for physical battle'

Michael Owen claims that Arsenal struggle against teams who confront them with a physical style following their 2-1 defeat to Everton.

Michael Owen has claimed that Arsenal struggle against teams who play with a physical style.

The Gunners missed the chance to move top of the Premier League table when they squandered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 against Everton at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

The loss was Arsenal's first since the opening day of the season, but Owen believes that there are still notable weaknesses in Arsene Wenger's side.

"When he says they 'fought really hard', they fought really hard from Arsenal's point of view. That's a passing type of fighting hard, running around a bit," he told BT Sport.

"But when you are talking about physically fighting, they are just not designed for that. They are not a team that plays or trains that way.

"They need to pass a team off the park and when any team gets really physical against them, they find it harder."

Arsenal will look to return to winning ways against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
