Guus Hiddink: 'Arsene Wenger is the last of his kind'

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink praises Arsene Wenger for his longevity at the helm of Arsenal.

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has praised Arsene Wenger ahead of his side's trip to Arsenal this afternoon.

The Frenchman is approaching 20 years in charge of the Gunners, making him the longest-serving manager in all of English football, while in the Premier League, the next longest-serving manager is Bournemouth's Eddie Howe at three years and three months.

"It depends on the club's philosophy and calmness, but he may be one of the last to sit in a chair that long," said Hiddink.

"Why? Maybe the instant result is required. I don't know why. But it's always good to have men who are at clubs for long periods, to have them in very good management positions.

"That doesn't mean to say they always have to be on the pitch. They can also be very good later on in their career as a help for those who are buying and selling a club, and then you maintain a philosophy and strategy in a club which is important."

Wenger entertains Hiddink's side at the Emirates looking to return to the top of the Premier League.
