Marouane Chamakh says that he can benefit from Robin van Persie's imminent departure.

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh believes that Robin van Persie's departure could open the door for him to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on selling the Moroccan after two disappointing seasons since his free transfer from Bordeaux.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Fiorentina, while Besiktas have ruled themselves out of the running.

However, Chamakh said that he is determined to stay and prove himself in the Premier League.

When asked if Van Persie's leaving meant that he could stay at Arsenal, Chamakh replied: "Yes. If I am staying here with Arsenal, I will do my best for the team and give the maximum.

"Last season was difficult. We were playing with just one striker and that striker was the best player in Europe. There was not a lot I could do.

"I hope this season I will play more than last. I have not spoken with the manager but I will soon. Yes, I need more confidence. But to be confident I need to play more. I am determined to stay."

Chamakh made just six appearances last season.
