Arsenal reportedly plan to offer manager Mikel Arteta a new contract beyond 2023 if he achieves a top-six finish with the Gunners this season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will reportedly be in line for a new contract if he guides the Gunners to a top-six finish this season.

The 39-year-old continues to divide opinion among the Arsenal fanbase, and his existing deal at the Emirates is due to expire in the summer of 2023.

Arteta has steered Arsenal back into top-four contention this season, though, with the North London club currently sixth in the table with games in hand over West Ham United and Manchester United.

According to The Athletic, a top-six finish would 'almost certainly' mean a new contract for Arteta, who is therefore not under extreme pressure to guide the Gunners to a top-four finish.

The report claims that the powers-that-be at Arsenal view a Champions League place in the 2022-23 season as 'ahead of schedule' and Arteta is widely expected to still be in charge next term.

The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder has now taken charge of 113 games for the Gunners, winning 62, drawing 20 and losing 31 of them.
