Arsenal looking to achieve clean sheet record for first time since 2006

Arsenal can keep five consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League for the first time since 2006 should they prevent Southampton from scoring on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal will attempt to equal a 14-year-old clean sheet record in the Premier League when they travel to Southampton on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners are facing their second trip to St Mary's in a matter of days, and it was the Saints who got the better of a much-changed Arsenal side in the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at the weekend.

Despite relinquishing their domestic cup crown, Arsenal have turned their fortunes around in the league and have taken 13 points from 15 on offer in their last five top-flight matches.

Mikel Arteta's men have recorded shutouts over West Bromwich Albion, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United in the league over the past month, and another clean sheet at Southampton would see them go five league games without conceding for the first time since 2006.

Furthermore, having beaten Brighton and West Brom away from home without shipping a goal in their strong run, Arsenal could win three top-flight away matches with clean sheets for the first time since 2013.

Gabriel Magalhaes's own goal in Saturday's loss saw Arsenal's defence breached after eight hours and 28 minutes without conceding, and the Gunners lie 11th in the table - seven points adrift of the top four - ahead of Tuesday's game.
