How Arsenal could line up against Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up in Monday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Arsenal will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Newcastle United to the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

The Gunners were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace on Thursday, which has left them down in 11th position in the table, having picked up just 24 points from their 18 matches this term.

Mikel Arteta's side have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, though, including a 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend.

Arsenal will again be unable to call upon Pablo Mari on Monday night due to a calf problem, while Gabriel Martinelli faces a late fitness test on the ankle issue that he picked up before the Newcastle game last weekend.

Arteta's side have reportedly received a huge boost when it comes to Kieran Tierney, though, with a scan believed to have shown that the Scotland international has not suffered any serious damage to his calf, and the defender could therefore be back in the side against the Magpies.

There are not expected to be many changes from the side that started against Palace on Thursday, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Alexandre Lacazette set to continue in attack.

Gabriel could return at the heart of the defence in place of David Luiz, though, while there might be an alteration in the middle of the park, with Thomas Partey pushing to replace Dani Ceballos.

Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding will keep their spots in the back four, meaning that Ainsley Maitland-Niles is likely to be the player to drop out should Tierney, as expected, prove his fitness ahead of the contest.
