Arsene Wenger warns Roy Hodgson over fit-again Theo Walcott

Arsene Wenger urges England boss Roy Hodgson to remain patient with fit-again Theo Walcott and opt against starting him in the Three Lions' upcoming internationals.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned Roy Hodgson that it is too early to consider starting fit-again Theo Walcott in England's upcoming internationals.

Walcott was handed a 10-minute cameo by Wenger in Saturday's 3-0 win over Burnley in what was his first game back after an 11-month absence through injury.

Speculation has mounted that Hodgson may be tempted to usher the 25-year-old back into Three Lions duty ahead of fixtures with Slovenia and Scotland later this month.

Although claiming that he is happy for the winger to travel with the squad, Wenger feels it is important for Walcott to be eased back into the frey.

"Hopefully Theo will come on and have no setbacks now, but we always have to be cautious," the Frenchman told Sky Sports News.

"The battle is not won yet - at nine or 10 months out, you have ups or downs and I will have to manage that well. If he wants to go [with England], I am happy for him to go and train, and maybe get a few minutes.

"I am happy for that because it will help his development. Is he completely ready? I think it is a bit early, but to be in the squad would be good for him."

Hodgson's side host Slovenia at Wembley in a Euro 2016 qualifier on November 15th, before facing Scotland in a friendly at Celtic Park three days later.
