Van Persie: 'No regrets over chip'

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie insists that he had little option but to try to chip AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati last night.

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has insisted that he has no regrets over his failed chipped effort against AC Milan last night.

The Dutch striker opted to lift the ball over Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati from close range, only for Abbiati to deny his shot.

Had Van Persie found the net, it would have seen the Gunners overturn a four-goal deficit against their Italian opposition.

Despite his failure, Van Persie has admitted that he would attempt a similar effort if the opportunity presented itself again.

"The way I saw it is that [Abbiati] came quite close to me so there wasn't the option to pass it left or right of him," said Van Persie.

"I had to go for the chip. I still have to look back, but that is how I felt and that is why I chipped it."

Van Persie scored a penalty during yesterday's 3-0 win.
