Argentina fined £200,000 for media no-shows

The Argentine Football Association are fined £200,000 by FIFA for their failure to ensure that a player attended their World Cup pre-match press conferences.

FIFA has fined the Argentine Football Association £200,000 for its failure to ensure that a player attended their World Cup pre-match press conferences.

Only coach Alejandro Sabella has represented the South Americans at their last four news conferences.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has revealed that the World Cup finalists had breached the tournament's media and marketing regulations by sending Sabella to media duties without a player for company.

They said that the regulations are in place to "allow media, and ultimately fans, to have an opportunity to follow a team's preparations, while also allowing each team to have the best possible environment for those preparations".

Argentina will face Germany in the World Cup final at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium on Sunday.
