Preview: Angers vs. Bordeaux - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Ligue 1 clash between Angers and Bordeaux, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Angers and Bordeaux will go head to head on Sunday afternoon in what has perhaps surprisingly become a relegation six-pointer with three games of the Ligue 1 season remaining.

The hosts have fallen into danger thanks to their recent poor form, whilst the visitors are running out of time to save their top-flight status.

Angers produced a stunning start to the season - losing just one of their opening nine games - and, whilst that early form did fade away, they have spent the season looking comfortable in mid table.

They suddenly find themselves in a spot of bother now, however, after a shocking run of form that has seen them pick up just one win since late January.

A string of seven consecutive defeats ended with that single win against Brest, but - despite having picked up a few draws of late - they have still not been collecting enough points.

Their 2-0 loss to Monaco last time out saw them slip behind Troyes into 15th and they are just four points above Saint-Etienne in the relegation playoff spot.

One win from the final three games would probably be enough to secure their safety, but for that SCO will have to remember how to win a game.

Their predicament could be worse, though - just ask David Guion and his Bordeaux side.

Les Girondins have spent three straight decades in France's top flight, and even won the title as recently as 2009, just before the Qatari era began at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, that run looks more and more likely to come to an end as each week passes, with the club now four points behind Les Verts in that relegation playoff spot.

Guion's men held out for almost 75 minutes against Nice last weekend, before Andy Delort turned into an empty net for the winner, aided by an inadvertent pass from the unfortunate Tom Lacoux.

That potential single point would have made a big difference to their prospects, but they have another chance to rescue safety from the jaws of relegation this weekend against a club in even worse form than themselves.

Team News

Angers will have their first-choice strike partnership available again now that Mohamed-Ali Cho has served his suspension and Stephane Bahoken has recovered from injury.

Mathias Pereira Lage is also fit again and should return to his spot at right wing-back for the full 90 after coming off the bench last weekend.

The visitors also have players ready to return, in the shape of striker Ui-Jo Hwang and wing-backs Ricardo Mangas and Enock Kwateng.

Stian Gregersen and Danylo Ignatenko remain unavailable through injury, though, and there are unlikely to be many other changes after a promising showing against Nice last time out.

Angers possible starting lineup:
Mandrea; Ebosse, Traore, Thomas; Lage, Fulgini, Bentaleb, Doumbia; Boufal; Cho, Bahoken

Bordeaux possible starting lineup:
Costil; Guilavogui, Marcelo, Ahmedhodzic; Kwateng, Onana, Adli, Mangas; Dilrosun; Ui-Jo, Niang

We say: Angers 1-2 Bordeaux

This feels like a winnable match for Les Girondins, and if they are going to survive this year they will have to succeed in winning. Angers' poor form looks set to continue and despite having home advantage and a few returning players, we are backing the visitors to take a crucial three points.
