Alcorcon stun Espanyol in Copa del Rey

Daniel Pacheco's second-half goal proves enough for Alcorcon to beat Espanyol 1-0 at home in the Copa del Rey.

Segunda Division side Alcorcon have got the better of Espanyol 1-0 at home in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 tie.

The first chance fell to the visitors on 11 minutes. Pizzi marched down the wing and whipped in a cross for Thievy, who failed to control the ball. However, the 24-year-old came close with the rebound, forcing the opposition defence to scramble away the ball.

Six minutes later Thievy found himself in an one-on-one with Daniel Hernandez, but the Alcorcon goalkeeper stopped him from pulling the trigger.

However, the home side almost stunned their La Liga opponents 10 minutes from time when Christian Alfonso rattled the post from 25 yards.

Moments later Alfonso came close again with a simple tap-in, before Espanyol's Hector Moreno saw his header saved by Hernandez.

Second-half substitute Daniel Pacheco almost made a quick impact when he earned Alcorcon a corner from which Antonio Martinez shot narrowly wide.

Pacheco did eventually prove to be the difference between the two sides when he scored the winning goal on 72 minutes, finding the net with a free kick aided by disappointing goalkeeping from Parreno Boix German.

Espanyol stepped up their game in the final stages of the contest, but failed to earn an equaliser.
