Half-Time Report: Adebayo Akinfenwa double gives Wimbledon the lead

Adebayo Akinfenwa scores his sixth and seventh goals in six games as AFC Wimbledon take a 2-0 lead in at half time against Bury.

Adebayo Akinfenwa struck a first-half double to give AFC Wimbledon a 2-0 lead against League Two leaders Bury at the break.

The powerful striker netted the opener on 26 minutes when he cushioned a side-foot volley into the bottom corner to continue his impressive scoring run.

Earlier in the game, Danny Mayor embarked on a mazy run before flashing the ball across goal, but Daniel Nardiello was unable to turn it goalwards for the visitors on 18 minutes.

Mayor went close again moments later when his long-range effort was saved by Wimbledon stopper James Shea.

Ryan Lowe almost levelled the scores moments after the goal when he struck the bar with a free kick before Akinfenwa missed a chance to double the lead with a close-range effort.

However, the forward was on hand to net his seventh goal in six games when he converted with a powerful header on 37 minutes.
