Manchester City beat AC Milan in eight-goal thriller

Manchester City are through to the final of the Audi Cup with an entertaining 5-3 win over AC Milan in Munich.

Manchester City have reached the final of the Audi Cup with an entertaining 5-3 win over AC Milan in Munich.

All eight goals were scored during the first half at the Allianz Arena in a thrilling encounter between the two sides.

David Silva fired City into an early lead before Micah Richards finished at the second time of asking to put them 2-0 up on 21 minutes.

Aleksandar Kolarov's low strike extended the Blues' advantage moments later, while two quick-fire goals from Edin Dzeko made it 5-0 with just 38 minutes on the clock.

Stephan El Shaarawy's weak effort saw Milan pull one back soon after, and the winger grabbed a second almost instantly when he capitalised on some slack City defending.

A surreal opening 45 minutes saw its eighth goal go in just before the half-time whistle, thanks to Andrea Petagna's clever flick past Joe Hart.

While the first period was a flurry of end-to-end action, both sides struggled to create too much excitement after the break, as Samir Nasri shot wide before Kevin-Prince Boateng forced a save from Hart.

City almost scored a sixth with 10 minutes to play, but substitute Alvaro Negredo rattled the crossbar.
