Normal People star Paul Mescal uncertain over second season

Normal People star Paul Mescal insists that he has no idea whether a second season will get the go-ahead.

Normal People actor Paul Mescal has insisted that he has not heard anything official about a second season.

The series, based on the popular Sally Rooney book, debuted on iPlayer and Hulu at the end of last month and has become a word-of-mouth hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

Fans have naturally called for a second season of the teen drama, even though Rooney has yet to pen a follow-up, but Mescal has revealed that he has not yet been approached by producers.

"I don't know," he told Lauren Laverne on 6 Music. "If there is, we haven't heard anything about it."

The 24-year-old - a relative unknown before Normal People - has already lined up his next project, however, adding: "I'll hopefully be doing a film towards the end of the summer, lockdown and coronavirus pending but hopefully, it will be very exciting."

Producer Ed Guiney recently revealed that he is open to the idea of making a second season following the runaway success of the first.
