Normal People producer says "maybe" to second season

Normal People producer Ed Guiney hints that a second season could be on the cards in the future.

Normal People producer Ed Guiney has suggested that a second season of the teen drama might be on the cards.

All episodes of the show, which follows a pair of Irish teens as they begin a relationship, dropped on iPlayer towards the end of last month.

The series - based on the Sally Rooney novel of the same name - has been a runaway critical and ratings success, helping propel BBC Three to its best ever week online.

Asked if the show could return, Guiney told The Hollywood Reporter: "We're not thinking about a second season at the moment. Maybe in the future at some point in time.

"What we are doing is the same team are adapting Conversations With Friends, which is Sally's first book.

"Obviously, [it] is a cousin of Normal People in a way, but it's also quite different. We're actively developing that. That's very exciting and a lovely thing to be working on during the lockdown."

Lead actor Paul Mescal recently admitted that he would "absolutely" be on board for a second season.
